Today Glenn covered 42 miles in just over 2 hours. His progress was aided by a stiff tailwind which left him with a bit of a conundrum.
To go on, or not to go on. The next leg of his trip is 112 miles of desert – far from impossible for a day but perhaps a bit much on top of the 42 miles already covered. But the assistance of the tailwind was tempting.
He has already discarded some unnecessary items to make room for extra water and carries survival equipment in case he is forced to spend a night in the open. A forced overnight stop would be no disaster.
Eventually he decided to stay the night and cross the desert tomorrow, hoping the winds would hold. He spent the time working out, swimming and ransacking Wal Mart for supplies. He also tested the capabilities of his laptop (or do I mean backpack?) computer. He is planning to spend some of his cycling time online - more of this later.
Finally, the decision hinged on one crucial factor. Although a night in the rough holds no great fears for Glenn, it does have one major drawback. No en-suite coffee.
