Yesterday ended. It had to, so today could start. Glenn had hoped to spend last night in Carrabelle. It’s a good thing he mentioned his plan to someone, because he learned that both hotels had been blown out by last year’s storms and had not reopened.
It was only a short step back to a working hotel in Apalachicola, so Glenn didn’t lose more than a few miles of actual effort. It did, however, make him stop short of his day’s target, and cost him time. At this point, Glenn started
seriously counting days and miles to see what he needed to achieve to reach Aventura on time.
Once again, local knowledge came to his help. Don’t take the coast road through St. Teresa, they said, Go inland by Sopchoppy and save a few miles. So he did.
Quickest way south - head north!
End of the detour inland
A “disturbance” that started in the Caribbean is now wandering around the Gulf, making life complicated. This could be the first storm of the season, but at this point, no one knows. Some predict it will head north, others expect it to swing east and take a swing at Florida.
Glenn’s taking no chances. Despite yesterday’s delays, he’s going to run around in front of the storm and get clear before it strikes - if it strikes. Despite some increasingly unhelpful winds, he covers 104 miles from Apalachicola to Perry before calling it a day.
Aren’t we heading South?
