And from the county line, it’s a hop, skip and a jump to Ft Lauderdale, and
he’s done it - crossed the state in a day. Mind you, it is long after 3 p.m.
A quick attack of the Googles turned up Clewiston, on Lake Okeechobee. Clewiston is about half way to Aventura, and boasts five hotels A few miles further on is South Bay, with another two or three hotels. So that was it - a viable alternative to crossing the tip of the peninsula in one day.
There are two ways of getting to Clewiston - CR 74, which runs east out of Punta Gorda, or Hwy 80, which runs east from Fort Myers. Glenn chose to go via Fort Myers since CR 74 sounds like a very minor road and might cause more problems than the five miles it saves.
Hwy 80 had problems - too much traffic and a 3” wide shoulder. Glenn had to stop many times to avoid trucks.
Glenn called. “I see a storm.” Weather radar agreed, but also said moving SW fast. “Cycle on,” I said,
and by the time he got there, the storm had gone.
Forgot to mention - this storm is west of Ft Lauderdale. Glenn’s already long past Clewiston.
